Symposia

The Board of the European Anthropological Association has decided to allow for a new way of organizing contributed oral presentations. An EAA symposium consists of 5 to 10 oral presentations (15 minutes + 5 minutes for immediate questioning) and a discussant that will have 30 minutes to sum up the contributions and draw overreaching conclusions. An EAA Symposium is centered on a subject defined by the organizer. The organizer will usually be an established researcher in the field of the symposium. The organizer has the following tasks:

  1. Write an abstract on the intend of the symposium (this abstract will be in the same format as an abstract for contributed oral or poster presentations).
  2. Identify 5 – 10 researchers in the field of the symposium and get their acceptance to participate in the congress and in the symposium specified.
  3. Identify a discussant and get acceptance from the discussant to participate in the congress and in the symposium specified.
  4. Lay out a program for the symposium – with authors and tittles of presentations and submit it to the congress organizers (ADBOU@health.sdu.dk) before March 31, 2018. So the organizers will have time to evaluate the proposal well before the contributors must submit their presentation abstract (by April 30, 2018).
  5. Make sure that all symposium presenters submit their abstract in time and in accord with the format specified for contributed oral presentations.

Contributed oral presentations

Contributed oral presentations usually form the majority of communications at the EAA congresses. An abstract must be submitted before April 30, 2018. It will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee and the author will be notified about acceptance or rejection of the abstract before July 1, 2018. If the Scientific Committee finds that there are linguistic or other minor shortcomings in a submitted abstract it may enter into communication with the author to get minor corrections so the abstract can be accepted. If the Scientific committee finds that the presentation is better suited as a poster presentation it will notify the author about this and give the author a chance to respond to the decision. The abstract must contain the following elements:

  1. The body of text (up to 1000 signs including spaces).
  2. A tittle (up to 100 signs including spaces). The tittle should be informative about the content of the presentation.
  3. A list of authors (up to 100 signs including spaces). The presenting author should be the first author.
  4. A list of affiliations of the authors (up to 100 signs including spaces) including contact information (e-mail address) of the presenting author.
  5. A tick indicating if the presentation will be part of the student’s presentation competition.
  6. A choice of subject, chosen from the drop down menu on the registration form.
